thankful for Saturdays

There's just nothing like a Saturday. I love spending a lazy Saturday with Matthew and Springer. Sometimes we just piddle around... but lately we've been more adventurous!

Our city has a great farmers market downtown on Saturday mornings, and one booth in particular sells delicious scones!

{wishing I had taken a picture before I scarfed it down}

Another gift to our neck of the woods is Callaway Gardens. A few weeks ago we drove over for breakfast at the Country Store {Matthew's first pancakes!}...
 the Birds of Prey show {Daddy's favorite}...
and a walk around the Sibley Center.

Then last weekend... off to our niece's birthday party and then a date with Springer to the Georgia game!
I think I can speak for all of us when I say, "We are so thankful for Saturdays together!" Can't wait to see what today has in store!

thankful for friends who pray

Once a week a couple of friends and I gather in my home.  We read the Word, we share, we apply the Truth, we pray.  What a high and holy privilege to pray for and with my friends!  I don't want to take these women or our time for granted.  So today I am especially thankful for them.  May God continue to knit our hearts together more and more.
Therefore, brothers {and sisters!}, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:19-25
Dear Reader, if you love Jesus, have you made prayer with other believers a priority? I can't tell you what a blessing it has been to me these last few months to pray regularly with a small group of women. Can I encourage you to do the same?

thankful for dimples

Our Matthew has two dimples! I'm not sure where they came from because neither Springer nor I have dimples... but this smile melts our hearts.
So today I am thankful for the little gifts on each of Matthew's cheeks!

thankful FOR the Giver

Not only am I giving thanks TO the Giver of all good things, but today I am giving thanks FOR the Giver, Who is truly the greatest Gift in life!
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience-among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved-and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:1-10
By grace... through faith... a gift!

Jesus gave up His life and gives new life to those who repent and believe in Him. Oh that I would remember and meditate on this Truth... giving thanks for His mercy, His love, His life, His grace, His kindness every day!

thankful TO the Giver

Before we talk about things we are thankful for, I think it's important to note who we are thankful to.
Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth!
Serve the LORD with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
Know that the LORD, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!

For the LORD is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
Psalm 100
This summer I started reading One Thousand Gifts.  Slowly but surely I am making my way through Ann Voskamp's rich words.  She has encouraged me to look at all things as gifts from God.  And to be thankful for that gift.

So I'll start today off with Scriptures that remind me Who is the Giver and the One Who deserves all my thanks.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
James 1:17
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
 Jesus, thank you for your innumerable gifts in my life and help me to be quick to give you thanks in all things.

31 days of thankfulness

I've gone back and forth trying to decide about jumping on the 31 day invitation from my long-time blogger favorite, the nester. What if I can't think of 31 things to write about? What if I get too busy? What if I don't finish? ... these concerns at the forefront of my brain.

But as a sort of "last hoorah" on the blog {because let's be honest, I've been a very inconsistent blogger} I've decided to join the fun and write on a subject dear to my heart.

thankfulness

Last December I decided 2012 would be a year in which I was more thankful. I wanted to verbalized my thanks to the people around me. I instituted what I called "Thankful Thursdays", in which I purposed to send a note of thanks each Thursday. {I think this lasted through April, when I ran out of my prestamped envelopes!}

This month I'll write about thankfulness for 31 days. If nothing else, my heart will be prepared for November and Thanksgiving!

celebrate

We celebrated Matthew's first birthday earlier this month.  It was so much fun!

Our dear friend Sarah Nixon honored us by taking pictures at the party.

Here are a few of our favorites from the day...

 Thanks a million, Sarah!
